Charlie Crane

Charlie Crane is an audio engineer and Mystery Street Recording’s Artist Relations Manager. He graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2010 with a BA in Audio Arts & Acoustics.

Charlie is a multi-instrumentalist who has both performed with and produced, mixed or mastered albums by such diverse bands as The Dyes (rockabilly/garage), Parasites (pop-punk), The Unswept (power pop), Liz & The Baguettes (alt-country/folk), The Uncontrollable Few (rock/new wave), as well as his own solo material. His omnivorous appetite for music gives him a natural rapport with fellow musicians, as well as a keen ear for the sonic characteristics that exemplify certain genres.
In his spare time, he produces a podcast called Stereo Hysteria on which he interviews favorite musicians (including such local heroes as Jon Langford, White Mystery, Phil Angotti and Robbie Fulks) about their careers and philosophies toward making music. It’s a labor of love that requires active listening, tireless research, and patient editing.
Charlie lives in Des Plaines, IL, where he also works part-time at the Des Plaines Public Library. There, he produces the Pint & Click Podcast, a roundtable discussion of media, as well as editing and archiving the library’s board meetings. His experience in the library world has instilled in him an appreciation for the importance of preserving and cataloging data for posterity.
