We just wrapped up nearly a year of recording, mixing, and mastering for The Missing Chums newest album “Out of the Gates.” Check out these videos for a preview of the album! The first is live footage from the studio while they tracked the song.
The record release show is March 11 @ Transistor in Chicago. Mystery Street’s resident band, The Rust Belt Ramblers, will be supporting. Click Here for details!
Chicago Rapper Ill Will recently filmed parts of his music video at Mystery Street and then spit a freestyle for the camera while he was here…
“AT LAST, OKEMAH! is a short film retelling the story of Don Quixote in the modern day world of folk music; an uproarious comedy that believes that a person can become whatever he wants to be, rise above adversity, and inspire hope in the hearts of the masses. It also believes that listening to enough ancient folk ballads will drive you insane.”
It was fun having the crew in the studio. We did some filming and also recorded some voice over for the film!
Check out the film and see the scene filmed in our studio!

Although we have a glowing sign that says “Recording Studio” in our window, most people in our neighborhood are clueless as to what lies beyond the doors our blue building. Here is a funny little story that a friend discovered about uncovering the mystery of Mystery Street…
A past article from Hot Times at Old Town, an Old Town School of Folk Music publication, that mentions Mystery Street’s audio transfer work.
“Unique Gift Idea
Convert your friend/partner/spouse’s favorite audio tape(s) to CD format. An easy choice for this job is Joe Tessone, a friend of the Old Town School, who runs the Mystery Street Recording Company at 2827 N. Lincoln. He charges $20 an hour. You can contact him at joe@mysterystreetrecording.com.
As of September 1, we have expanded our facility to include two more rehearsal rooms. The beauty of them is that they are acoustically isolated from our recording space, so can have rehearsals and recordings going on at the same time. That means more availability for both our recording and rehearsal clients!
While the rooms are currently set up and ready for rehearsal, over the next month we will be renovating the spaces to make them more comfortable and more functional. Please bear with us during the transformation!
On a different note, remember that fire we had? Well, Universal Audio, manufacturer of tons of high-end audio gear, featured our studio fire story in their webzine this month! Click here to read the article and hear about the generous gift they gave us!
